About The Shot

The cue ball blasts into the 9 ball which starts the 1 ball banking across the table. The cue ball caroms off into the 2 ball creating a massive chain reaction causing all of the pairs of balls to split open, clearing the path for the 1!

Make This Shot

Here's the whole setup (Figure 1). Start with the 1 ball frozen to the rail, about a ball width from the side pocket. The 9 ball is directly out from that. The 2 ball is 2 ball widths from the 9 and offset about a 1/2 ball forward. The 3 ball is straight away from the 2, about an inch away. The 2-10 tangent line points to the middle of the 3 ball. Continue this pattern across the table. The cue ball is about a ball width off the cushion and one diamond back from the 9.

Aim for a little less than a half ball hit on the 9. I like to use a little left english for no real good reason. The more pairs of balls you have, the harder you need to hit it so there's enough energy at the end of the chain reaction to split the last two balls. Start with two or three pairs and work your way up. Adjust your aim to get a good solid hit on the 2 ball while still getting the cue ball out of the way.

Tim's Tidbit

This is a classic trick shot that resembles Moses parting the Red Sea. Some people call this the football shot.
