15 Pro Masse Pool Trick Shots

Masse shots are always a favorite, both to shoot and to watch. Here are the 15 masse shots in the 2013 WPA Artistic Pool shot program. Click on the picture to watch the video!

The 6 point masse shots begin with the Passing Lane for shot 1A. An extreme version clears a ball in the side pocket. For this one though, you only need to scratch before the object ball gets there. Shot 1B is the Escape Masse. For the program, it’s pretty simple just to go around one ball. Shot 1C is the Snake Shot, where the cue ball escapes and sneaks around a blocker ball.

The Hustler Masse is the first 7 pointer. The cue ball goes out and back to pocket two balls in the same corner. Willie Mosconi shot this for the movie The Hustler. Shot 2B is the Machine Gun Masse. Much like the Machine Gun Follow shot, the cue ball makes a rat-a-tat-tat sound as it spins through the alley of balls. Shot 2C is the Out and Back Masse, but the short rail version. It’s still pretty impressive if you can get the cue ball to fly back up the rail.

Shot 3A is the Kick Masse shot around a wall. While the tournament version only uses a 4 ball wall, you can definitely work your way up to a 14 ball wall. Shot 3B is a version of the Rocket Masse, which you can also do one handed!. The two balls setup by the side pocket aren’t always a gimme either, since the spin on the cue ball can throw off the ball going across into the corner. Shot 3C is Big Guy’s Twister, name after Bruce “The Big Guy” Barthelette who helped bring this shot to the tournament scene. You can do this shot by jacking up real high with a regular cue too and using a regular pendulum stroke.

Shot 4A is the standard Vertical Jump Masse. Shot 4B is the Out of the Rack Masse where the cue ball escapes from a rack of balls. I hit this similar to the Machine Gun Masse above. Shot 4C is the Rebound Masse which I saw Stefano Pelinga first try on ESPN Trick Shot Magic.

The 10 point shots jump straight into the Yo Yo Masse. Shot 5B is the Mingaud Masse, or Exit Stage Right, where the cue ball takes a sharp right turn around a piece of chalk. Captain Francois Mingaud invented the modern pool cue tip, which was a big step in being able to make this type of shot. Shot 5C is (one of) Eric Yow’s masse shots.
