About The Shot

This is an extreme version of a classic masse shot. The cue ball kicks off the long rail and above the wall of 14 balls, then masses back to pocket the hanger in the far corner.

Make This Shot

The wall of balls should be one diamond out from the corner pocket. Start with 4 or 5 and work your way up.

I like to place the cue ball about a half balls width away from the wall, and a half balls width away from the short rail. I aim to hit the rail about 1 and 3/4 diamonds up, hitting at 6:30 to 7 o'clock. With fewer balls in the wall, aim about 1 and 1/4 diamonds up, with the same hit. Start with 75 degrees of elevation. If the masse doesn't take soon enough, then start increasing it little by little. If it's not getting around the wall, change your aim point. For longer walls, hitting it harder is also a good option.

In competition, typically only a 4 or 6 ball wall is used.
